GORDON ERSKINE PILKEY Peacefully on Friday, April 7, 2006, surrounded by his family, Gordon passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. Our family wishes to thank the Doctors and staff of both the St. Boniface Hospital MICU and the Health Sciences Centre Intermediate ICU for their wonderful care and for their kindness. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 57 years, Joan, son Jon, daughter Sharon Lebeda (Vlastimil), grandsons Mathew Pilkey and Dana Lebeda, granddaughter Samantha Lebeda, great-grandchildren Caleb Hoskins, Nathan and Emma Lebeda, and sisters Dorothy Hudson and Mary Lorimer. Gordon was predeceased by his brother William Ross Pilkey. A native of Owen Sound, ON, Gordon was a veteran of the Second World War who served his country as a member of the Canadian Navy aboard the destroyer H.M.S.C. Qu'Appelle. Gordon was educated in Winnipeg and graduated from the Manitoba Law School in 1951. From 1951 to 1955 he practiced Law in Dauphin, Mb. Gordon was appointed Deputy Attorney General for the Province of Manitoba in 1965, a position he held until his retirement from public service in 1984. Gordon was an avid curler and to all who knew him, a debater of political issues both in Canada and abroad. Despite his retirement, he remained an intellect who revered the legal profession and all those who served it well. As someone who never expected more of others than he expected of himself, Gordon's memory will serve to encourage each of us who loved him, to strive to be the best that we can be. A memorial service will be held at the Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gordon's memory may be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Winnipeg Chapter, Box 21008, 33 - 3900 Grant Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3R 3R2, a charity of choice or a non perishable food item may be left with the Funeral Home in support of Winnipeg Harvest.
