MARGARET GWINDILINE WELSH (nee WHITESIDE) Devoted daughter, loving wife and dedicated mother, Margaret left our world with grace and peace to begin the next journey on April 7, 2006, at Grace General Hospital. Born June 13, 1922 to Margaret and William Whiteside, Margaret attended Greenway, General Wolfe and Daniel MacIntrye schools. She is predeceased by her parents, her sister Beth and brother Tom. An accomplished pianist in her youth she had a lifelong enjoyment of music. After graduation, she worked as a stenographer while her fiancé Bill Welsh served in the navy throughout the war years. Married on May 5, 1945 Bill and Margaret celebrated their 60th anniversary with a wonderful family gathering this past spring. Margaret's passion, talent and pleasure was her care for others. In marriage, she was best friend, steadfast helpmate and constant and loving companion to Bill. As a mother, she provided a loving home for Lynda, Maureen and Bruce. She sent us off to school with a hug and welcomed us home with a smile. As the years passed and her children married and had children of their own, she opened her heart to an even bigger family: Jim and Lynda Daun and their children, Kyle and Meredith, Maureen Spier with Jennifer and Jared and Kim and Bruce Welsh with Aynsley and Andrea. She also spent many years faithfully caring for her mother and stepfather, Margaret and Jim Cummings. Young and old, we all knew Mum's love, care and attention. To Margaret the cottage at Caddy Lake was an extension of home where she worked with Bill to build a place where generations would enjoy being together. In her younger years she enjoyed sports and was an active member of the Thistle Ladies Curling Club and a social golfer. She and Bill enjoyed many lifelong friendships. Her kindness, consideration and interest in others won her many new friends when she and Bill moved to Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts five years ago. She was especially pleased to enjoy these last friendships. In recent years, the joy of her life was seeing her grandchildren come to maturity, making their own successes. Jennifer, Kyle, Jared, Meredith, Aynsley and Andrea were her heart's delight, and they all loved their grandmother and thrived under her care and attention. In later years, Margaret had many health challenges which she bravely bore. She would have wanted to thank Dr. Intrader and the staff of the Health Sciences Centre pain clinic, her family doctor, Jonathan Werier, the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service, Major JoAnne Biggs of the Salvation Army and Dr. Johnson and staff of the Grace Hospital. If friends so desire they may honour her memory with a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A service of thanksgiving for her life will be held on Wednesday, April 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway, Winnipeg. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway 783-7211
