ERMA SYLVIA WESLOSKI (nee RUSK) On her mother's birthday, April 8, 2006 at Portage District General Hospital, beloved wife, aunt and great-aunt, sister, cousin and friend, at the age of 85 years. She is survived by her husband Leo, brother Don Connelly of British Columbia, brother-in-law Chas McColl of New Zealand, many nephews and nieces, their children and grandchildren and other extended family. Erma was predeceased by brothers, Allan, Bob, Raymond and Howard Rusk; and by sisters, Gladys Rusk, Stella McLaughlin, Dell Leslie, Bernice McColl, Beatrice Weston and Shirley Kinley. While we mourn Erma's death, we also celebrate her life and are thankful for the role that she played in our lives as Aunt, Great-Aunt and second Mom . We also fondly remember, in her younger years, her role as instigator of whatever fun was underway at family gatherings (dancing to the latest tunes), taking us along on outings or holidays and generally being interested in us. Erma was the youngest daughter of Rose and Alex Rusk, born in Amaranth, MB on July 8, 1920. She met and married Leo Wesloski in 1955 and settled on Oakland Avenue in Winnipeg for the majority of her married life. A highlight of their life together was a trip to New Zealand in 1975 to visit sister Bernice, brother-in-law Chas and their family. In 1978, Erma was struck by a cerebral aneurism; a successful surgery saved her life, but left her with side-effects that limited her capabilities from that point onward. Even with her diminished capacity, however, we felt her love. She was always ready to tease or be teased and to look for the humour in everyday life. Her last home was Lions Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie, MB, where she and Leo both resided, to be close to nephew Doug (Janet) and grandniece Kathryn. Many thanks to Parkview staff at Lions Prairie Manor who cared lovingly for Erma day to day, and to Medical Ward staff at Portage District General Hospital who cared compassionately for her during the last two weeks of her life. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered. A celebration of Erma's life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home at 4000 Portage Ave., on Thursday, April 13 at 3:00 p.m with visitation taking place one half hour prior to the service. Interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or the Portage Hospital Palliative Care Program (in care of Portage District General Hospital Foundation), 524 - 5th Street S. E., Portage La Prairie, MB R1N 3A8. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca. CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
