WILLIAM GORDON MACCALLUM Bill passed away suddenly January 23, 2006 at St. Boniface Hospital. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Rd. with Rev. Susan Tough officiating. Bill is survived by daughter Laurie-Jane, husband Michael Furness and their children, Isla and Duncan; sister-in-law Aline (Jack Motyer) and family; the Shaws of Prince Edward Island and Toronto; nieces and nephews and special friend Helena Stelsovsky. Predeceased by wife Beverley (Ross), parents, Harold and Helen, brother Jim and sister Dorothy. Bill was born March 5, 1927 in Winnipeg. Bill spent every summer in his youth at the family run Shaw's Hotel in Prince Edward Island where his love of golf began. The Hotel on Brackley Beach drew Bill his entire life. Bill attended Earl Grey and Kelvin participating in operettas, which spawned his life long love of music. Bill joined Elmhurst Golf Club in 1949 and spent the next 56 years honing his skill. Bill met his wife Bee while working at Canadian Liquid Air. After marrying in 1955 they settled in Norwood. Bill was employed for 35 years at Northwest Orient Airlines until retirement in 1990. After losing his wife in 1998 Bill continued to enjoy life - he lived his dream of golfing the Old Course at St. Andrews, curled as a senior with the Granite and Fort Garry rinks and travelled abroad where he met Helena. They enjoyed many trips both overseas and to her cabin at Steeprock. Sugar Bill was a gentle man admired and respected by all who had the pleasure to meet him. Laid back, relaxed and fun, Bill was a loving father, grandfather and friend who will be missed. Hit em long and straight Sugar. Flowers gratefully declined - donations may be made to the Humane Society in Bill's memory. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 ARCHIBALD ST. 253-5086
