Doreen was predeceased by her son Paul Edwin Askew in 1984; her brothers, Emile, Orval, Dennis; her sisters, Yvette and Flavie. Doreen is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Arthur James Askew; her daughters, Linda Rudachek (Allen Hinds), Diana Quilty, Claire McGuire (Craig), Susan Coutts, Cecile Tunstead (Steve), close family friend Sandra Graham; her grandchildren, Michelle (Rudachek), Christine (Rudachek), Jason (Pineo), Ryan (Quilty), Laura (Quilty), Brandy (McGuire), Jennifer (Coutts), Elizabeth (Coutts), Shane (Tunstead); and her great-grandchildren, Ximena, Danica, Kirby, Kasper, Melina and Arnulfo Jr. She also leaves her sisters, Florida (Clement), Adrienne (Giroux); and her sister-in-law Phyllis Desrochers. Doreen was born in Greenway, MB and moved to Winnipeg with her family when she was 10 years old. She was employed at Motor Coach Industries until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabel, the Catholic Women's League and an active member of St. Emile Church. Her strong faith and devotion deeply affected all aspects of her daily life. The angels, the sure and majestic form that she loved so much, now guide her. She lives among them in peace, and tranquility in the land of our Heavenly Father. Viewing will be at 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Devotional at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 13 at St. Emile Church, 556 St. Anne's. Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens and a reception will follow. Special thanks to Dr. Cavers from Victoria Hospital and Dr. Ibrahim from Health Sciences Centre, her nurses on the 5th floor at the Victoria Hospital and the SICU staff at Health Sciences Centre. A special thank you to Sam Doerksen for his friendship and assistance during this most difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association. At Doreen's request this poem is included for our comfort. To Those I Love And Those Who Loved Me When I am gone, release me, let me go I have so many things to see and do, You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears; Be happy that we had so many years. I gave to you my love, you can only guess How much you gave to me in happiness I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now it's time I traveled on alone. So grieve a while for me if grieve you must; Then let your grief be comforted by trust, It's only for a while that we must part, So bless the memories within your heart. I won't be far away, for life goes on; So if you need me, call and I will come, Though you can't see me or touch me, I'll be near and if you listen with your heart, you'll hear All of my love around you soft and clear. And then when you must come this way alone. I'll greet you with a smile and say, Welcome Home. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
