Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN ELIZABETH MCINTOSH (nee MCDONALD) Peacefully, in her 92nd year, Jean Elizabeth McIntosh (McDonald) passed away on April 13, 2006 at the Boundary Trails Health Centre. She was born on June 2, 1914 in Turtleford, SK to Eliza Smith and James McDonald. After spending her first six years in Saskatchewan, she moved to LaRiviere where her father became community blacksmith. She received most of her schooling in La Riviere, then attended Normal School in Manitou, graduating in 1932. Over the next eight years Jean taught in a number of country schools in the area. In 1940 she and Jack McIntosh were married and moved to a farm north of Manitou. Over the next 15 years their family expanded with the arrival of their three children. During the years of raising the children, Jean enjoyed participating in the community through the children's activities, the church and Kinettes. In 1966, after a 26 year absence from the classroom, she went back to teach Grade Ten English and spent the next eight years helping to educate another generation. In 1974, she and Jack moved off the family farm to Brandon. In 1976 they returned to Manitou, where they spent many happy years. During those years Jean enjoyed many hours playing games with her grandchildren, displaying her bridge skills, celebrating birthdays with friends and family, and working on various festival committees. In recognition of her festival volunteer contributions Jean was awarded an honorary membership to the Association of Manitoba Arts Festivals. Through her advancing years she retained her lifelong zest for knowledge and interest in current events. We will all miss her warmth, intellect and caring ways. Jean is survived by sons, Fraser (Muriel) and David (Carol) of Manitou and daughter Sheila (Phil) of Calgary. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Blaine and Leah, Colin and Nancie, Jennifer and Mathew, Julie, Emily and Julia. Also three sisters, Flora, Kathleen and Ruth (Earl) and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Jack, sister Anne and grandson Curtis. A special thank you to Dr. Lane and the caring and compassionate staff of the Boundary Trails Health Centre. Memorial services will be held at St. Andrews United Church in Manitou on Monday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m. with Revs. Laurie and Bev Simpson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Pembina Manitou Area Foundation, Manitou, MB R0G 1G0 or the charity of one's choice. Doyle's Funeral Chapel, in care of arrangements.
