ANNE DE GROOT Anne de Groot passed away quietly at the Concordia Place Care Home on April 12, 2006 at the age of 88. Anne is survived by her many nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Winnifred. She will be missed by her life long friend Corrie Vandergraaf and special friends Art and Agnes Hessel. Anne was predeceased by her brothers William, Frederick, Albert and Arthur. Anne was born in Winnipeg on April 8, 1918 where she worked and lived all her life. She grew up and attended school in the Birds Hill area and later lived both in East and North Kildonan. During the Second World War she served in the Royal Canadian Naval Service from 1942 to 1944. After the war she worked for the federal government as a clerk in the Family Allowance and Old Age Security department for 25 years retiring in 1974. During her retirement she volunteered at the Concordia Hospital where she was honoured for 15 years of service. She valued her family and was very proud of her Dutch heritage never forgetting her roots. Anne was a devoted daughter and she supported her family in all their endeavours. She was an active and generous supporter of the Christian Reformed Church. Anne had many interests and passions. She enjoyed reading, playing the organ, knitting and a good cup of coffee. Anne will be remembered as an aunt, friend, traveller, photographer, family historian and perhaps most of all as a devout Christian. A prayer service will be held on Saturday April 15 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., at 6:45 p.m., with viewing from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial Service Monday April 17 at 3:30 p.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Calvin Christian School, 245 Sutton Ave., Winnipeg, R2G 0T1.
