LAURENT (PETE) DORGE It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our father Laurent Pete Dorge on April 15, 2006, surrounded as always by his family, Dad peacefully left this world after a brief illness. In sickness as in life he was a man of courage, wicked sense of humour and above all else he taught us to appreciate and live each day being the best person we could possibly be. Dad was always there to listen, lend a helping hand, or tell us the right way to fix our problems, whether we wanted to hear it or not. Father, grandfather, brother, and friend were all titles that Dad wore proudly and happily devoted his life to those he loved and cared for. We were all truly blessed to have had him in our lives and to have been given the privilege of knowing how special we were to him. Dad's favourite saying and the way he chose to live his life was if you're going to do something, do it right . Everyone who knew Dad would say that he loved us just right. Dad was predeceased by our mother, Sophie and leaves his memory his children, Ron (Shirley), Denis (Melanie), Linda (Gary) and Debbie. He was Pops to his eight grandchildren, Rhonda, Cindy, Laurent (Dar), Ryan (Katie), Cameron (Christine), Sam, Aaron and Kara, and great-grandfather to Brett, Lacey, Jasmin, Frankie, Sydney and Isabel. He is also remembered by his brother Phil; sisters, Alice, Rose, Kay and their families, in-laws Terry, Paul and their families. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint) with cremation to follow. Viewing will be held one hour prior. A gathering of family and friends will take place in the Glen Lawn Reception Centre. Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and doctors and the St. Boniface Hospital Emergency and on the 5B Wing for Dad's care and support. A special thank you to Dr. Matt Unger for your help and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to a charity of one's choice. You'll be always loved and missed. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • He was a wonderful grandfather. Caring loving and strong. I have fond memories of him. I'll always remember him sitting on the picnic table in Lester Beach, swatting mosquitoes with his fly swatter while everyone else hid in the cabin. I love you pops. God bless you and by the grace of God rest in peace. - Posted by: Laurent (Grandson) on: Nov 18, 2025

  • One Word : 'Pops'. I recall our final moments together. We shared our most intimate of conversations. I asked him to look upon our family, he did. Eyes misting, he said nothing, and looked back to me as a man for the first time. "Pops, we are all here because of you, you created this family." Looking at my father, my uncle, my aunts, my cousins, my nephews, my nieces, dancing, talking, smiling, laughing, enjoying each other, oblivious to the two of us surveying our beloved family. Pops cried, I cried, he leaned his head on my shoulder, then looked at me in a moment of understanding and nodded. Nodded as I guided his vision to his son, my father, then to my eyes, and I placed my hand on his shoulder gently. Connected by blood, by bond, by family, I said: " my dream Pops, is someday, I, will be you, sitting here, with my own grandson, looking upon 'our' family as you are now, thinking of you, and telling stories of this moment." He smiled, whispered he loved me, and i the same. And that was all. We wiped our tears, and stared again upon our family quietly, together, enjoying each other and the time we shared. Always loved, Never Forgotten. Family first, love you Pops - Posted by: Ryan Dorge (Grandson) on: Dec 08, 2012
