One of his first paying jobs was at Deacon's Corner where he met many people and began many friendships. It was here that he met the love of his life, Sharon. They married in 1967 and began their family. He worked at Bathurst, Eaton's Delivery, McMillan Carpets, and numerous other jobs (sometimes two at a time) to support his young family. In 1968 he became a member of the St. Boniface Police Department. He served in many capacities including as a member of the Bomb Disposal Unit. He retired from the Winnipeg Police Services as a Staff Sergeant in 1994. The comradeship of the force held many fond memories. After retirement Don kept busy roofing with his son, brother and friends. He enjoyed travelling and spending time with family and friends at his beloved cottage. He had a tremendous love of the outdoors, which included hunting and fishing with family and friends.
