Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHORA LOUISE PASIEKA It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Thora Louise Pasieka of Winnipeg Beach on Friday, April 14 at the age of 85 years, 11 months. Thora was born in Winnipeg on May 27, 1920 to Einar and Johanna Olsen. Her father was a First World War veteran who died when she was a small child. She moved with her mother to Winnipeg Beach, where she attended school. Thora moved back to Winnipeg when she was 15 years old and went to work for Western Glove. These were Depression years and as she laughingly said I had to leave home to find something to eat besides fish . She spent a lot of time at the Beach during the following years with her grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She married Eddy Pasieka, of Husavik in 1948 and they lived and worked in Winnipeg. Eddy passed away in 1956. She nursed at the Health Sciences Center until her retirement in 1984, when she moved back to Winnipeg Beach. Thora was always busy. She loved to knit, sew and crochet and to help with the teas, etc. for the United Church. She loved her flowers and was a great cook. She was a member of the Winnipeg Beach Legion Auxiliary and an enthusiastic member of the NDP party. She treated her many nieces and nephews as if they were her own and always had a smile and a helping hand. The saying to know her is to love her could have been written for Thora. She was predeceased by her husband Eddy and her brother Stewart Olson and is survived by her son Roy (Bonnie) and her brother Roy Hjorliefson (Isabel) and numerous relatives and friends who will sadly miss her. A memorial service will take place at the Winnipeg Beach United Church at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 with Judy Limpright officiating. If desired a donation can be made in Thora's name to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
