LILY JOHNSON (nee MENSFORTH) December 4, 1904 - April 17, 2006 After a long and happy life, Lil passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 17, 2006. She will be missed by her family, Betty and Bob Brooke and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Cecil Johnson (who was killed in Hong Kong during the Korean War) and also predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Alan, Alex and Alfred Mensforth and her sister Hilda Dawson. Lil was born December 4, 1904, diagnosed with spinal bifida and was not expected to live. Lil defied all odds and lived to be 97. Lil resided in Winnipeg all her life. She loved to travel, had a lengthy career with Eaton's until retirement, and faithfully volunteered at the Crafts Guild. She enjoyed her affiliation with her church in many capacities. Lil was a Sunday School teacher, was devoted to the alter guild and was a member of the Anglican Church Women's Group. Lil made her home with her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bob and their children, Warren, Ralph and Glenda for the majority of her life and more recently at Lion's Manor. Lil was a happy person and had a ready smile for others. Her kindness, her warmth, her loving spirit and her generous nature will be remembered by all who knew her. Family and friends are welcome to join a memorial service honoring Lil's life at Lion's Manor, 320 Sherbrook Street on Friday, April 21, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Lion's Manor for all the great care she received. Lil's wish to will her body to science for research purposes has been honoured.
