JOAN BENSTEAD (nee SMALE) With profound sadness the family of Joan Benstead announce her sudden passing on April 18, 2006 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Joan was born in Killarney, MB on July 25, 1933 to Thelma and Stan Smale. She was predeceased by both her parents. She met and later married George on July 18, 1953. Their two sons, Kim and Randy were born 13 months apart. Joan worked for Jostens for many years. Retirement in the early 1990s led to enjoyable winter vacations to San Antonio for several years. Joan was a loving and most devoted wife, mother and daughter, a trusted and caring sister, aunty and friend. She was an angel of a mother-in-law and a Nana like no other. She was simply the best and we will miss her so much. Joan will always be remembered for her unconditional willingness to help others, while expecting absolutely nothing in return. She was tiny and sweet. Her unselfish, supportive ways have earned her respect that will long be admired by those who knew and loved her. Joan had an infectious sense of humour and loved to create clever, witty limericks to mark special occasions. Our Mum never tired of the simple things in life; her cozy home with Dad, daily walks out and about, preparing delicious treats to share, time spent with family and Thursday night Bingo with friends. Joan leaves very special memories with her husband George; sons, Kim (Theresa) and Randy (Debby); her only granddaughter Erica (Jason Teerhuis); her sister Pat (George) Lafrance and their family, Sheri, Keinan, Darcy, Crystal and Michelle; sisters-in-law, June (Whitey) Horsfall, Mavis Crockford, Jessie Benstead; brothers-in-law, Russel F. Benstead, Robert (Debbie) Fraser of California, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Our family extends deepest gratitude to the paramedics and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for the compassion shown towards Mum and our family. Flowers are gratefully declined, however donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held with interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. May the Lord Bless and keep you. May He grant you peace until we meet again. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111
