GABRIEL JEROME STRAGIER Peacefully, at the St. Boniface Hospital on April 19, 2006, at the age of 94 years, Gabe passed away. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Jeanne; his daughters, Jeannette, Louise (René), and Pat (Rick). He also leaves nine grandchildren: Bob (Cathy); Mike (Léanne); Ron (Margaret); Brian (Kristin); Michelle (Rod); Luc (Nicole); Donnie (Stacey); Chris; Kevin (Adrienne) and nine great-grandchildren: Reiley; Melanie; Natalie; Samantha; Alex; Sonia; Danielle; Monique and Ashley. He was predeceased by his father Victor. Gabe was born December 8, 1911 in Kachtem, West Flanders, Belgium. He grew up in a loving home, and overcame the many hardships faced by most people growing up in those times. He met the love of his life, Jeanne, and they enjoyed almost 70 years together. He spent his whole career as a crop inspector and plant supervisor for McCabe Seeds and Northrup King. His work even took him to Kitchener, ON in the last few years before he retired. Family meant everything to him; they always came first and he provided very well for them. His lifelong hobby was gardening, where he became known as an expert, earning the title of the Tomato King at 400 DesMeurons. Papa also loved fishing and enjoyed several wonderful fishing trips with his grandsons in Cranberry Portage. The family would like to thank the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital (5th and 6th floors) for the excellent care given to our Dad. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Précieux-Sang Roman Catholic Church (200 Kenny St.) on Saturday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m., with Father Isaie Blanchette, OMI officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
