Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPHINE (JOSIE) PANISIAK-SLOBODIAN (nee TWORKOWSKI) It is with tears of sadness and broken hearts, we announce the passing of our precious mother, Baba and Great-Baba. After blessing us with her love, on April 19, 2006, Mom in her 91st year peacefully passed away at Lion's Manor Personal Care Centre, where she had resided for the last four years. Josephine was born in October of 1914 in Winnipeg, MB. to her parents Carolus and Anna (nee Hlusz) Tworkowski. The city was her home until she met and married our father Nicholas Panisiak on November 12, 1932. Our parents began their life together on the family farm homestead in Tolstoi, MB. As a couple they worked hard side by side for 41 years. Five children were born to Josie and Nick. Josephine was a creative, resourceful person. She sewed, embroidered, crocheted, gardened, cooked, baked, canned and was handy with a paintbrush, saw and hammer. As a true Ukrainian woman she always had a pot of soup on the stove, food in the fridge, food in the freezer and food on the table. Many meals came out of her kitchen - even if you arrived at the last minute - there always enough for one more. While living in Tolstoi, Josie was an active member of the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League and the Women's Institute (WI). Mom was loved, cherished and will deeply be missed by her children Nancy Ledarney, Nestor Panisiak, Joanne (Walter) Fostey, Sylvia Turner; she was Baba to grandchildren Sharon (Stan) Baron, Patricia (Dick) Fehr, Mitchel (Liz) Ledarney, Kathy Ledarney, Alex (Carmen) Ledarney, Darren (Kelli-Ann) Fostey, Debi (Alain) Fostey-Laliberte, Tammy (Britt) Empson, Christopher Turner, Walter Bradburn; Great-Baba to Terris (Amber) Baron, Natalie Baron, Ursula Baron, Julie (Mike) Wilkins and their children Savannah, Nicholas, Cameron and Austin, Bobby Fehr, David Ledarney, Angie Ledarney, Brody Fostey, Brennen Fostey, Alexander Ledarney Jr., Jorden Dewing, Ashley Fisher, Leigha Heald, Rhys Empson, Connor Empson. She was a loving sister to her half-sister Sylvia (Bert) McFetridge and a caring aunt to all her nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her son Lawrence, her first husband Nicholas, parents Carl and Anna, stepfather Bill Karpyshyn, half-brother Walter Karpyshyn, grandchildren Leonard Ledarney, Nestor Bradburn, son-in-law Alec Ledarney and her second husband John Slobodian. The family wishes to express many heartfelt thanks to Edna and the staff of Lion's Manor Personal Care Centre for all their care and compassion. Hugs to Shelley/Recreation and all the volunteers who daily enriched her life and her spirits. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 25 3:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home with viewing half hour prior to service. Interment and reception to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Deacon Leon Twerdun officiating. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main St. 338-7111
