GIUSEPPE CERASANI Peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2006 Giuseppe (Joe) Cerasani passed away at the St. Boniface General Hospital, Winnipeg. Joe was born on April 8, 1934 in San Benedetto di Marsi, Italy. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years Concetta (Connie) and his children, Guido (Sue), Vince (Cathi), Lorenzo (Debbie) and his much loved grandchildren, Lia, Bradley, Cameron, Amy and Eason. In addition to his immediate family, Pops will be fondly remembered and missed by his many family members, friends, and neighbors. In 1955, at the young age of 20, Joe immigrated to Winnipeg from his home in Italy. After securing employment in the garment industry, he wrote home to his parents in Italy and asked them to find him a wife. After exchanging many letters, Giuseppe and Concetta were married by proxy on August 20, 1956 while Joe was in Canada and Connie in Italy. Connie arrived in Winnipeg to meet her new husband for the first time in December, 1956. In addition to his many years in the garment industry, Joe mastered many skills to support his family including plumbing, electrical work, and renovations. He took great pleasure in tinkering and repairing anything he could get his hands on. Joe's most enjoyable times were spent outdoors in his garden or walking the streets of Fort Rouge. He was extremely proud of his gardens and tomatoes. His love of making wine, beer, and sausages for all to share was well known and appreciated by many. Joe spent many happy and proud days over the past dozen years helping build Shooters Family Golf Centre. He was often found teasing customers on the driving range or cruising around the course to ensure everyone was enjoying themselves. Family and friends were always welcome to the Barn for a pasta lunch with home made wine and fresh tomatoes from the garden. Nonno treasured family gatherings and was extremely proud of his entire family. Visits to Nonno and Nonna's were events filled with many happy memories, lot of laughs, entertaining stories and a seemingly endless supply of food and wine. The family would like to thank all the staff at the St. Boniface General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care over the past few weeks. A casual celebration of Joe's life will be held on Friday, April 28, at 1:00 p.m. at the Barn located at 3011 Main Street immediately east of Shooters Family Golf Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
