Predeceased by parents T.A. and Annie Waddell, sister Isabel and brothers Tom and Frazer. Gordon is survived by brothers John, Boyd and Menzies and sister Mae. Gordon was a Second World War veteran serving his country in the RCAF as a navigator. He and other members of his crew bailed out over France June 6, 1944 and Gordon successfully evaded capture. Gordon and Edith farmed at Newdale on the family farm homesteaded by his grandfather in 1879. Gordon was a leader in applying new farming practices. Gordon and Edith were avid gardeners and the Century Farm site regularly won awards for most attractive lawn and gardens. Gordon made a significant contribution to the community of Newdale in many ways: as an active member of the Newdale United Church, as a life long member of the I.O.O.F. and as a member of the Oldale, Newdale, and Birdtail River School Boards. Gordon was a keen fisherman and hunter, activities which he enjoyed with family members and friends. In more recent years Gordon and Edith enjoyed time with their family, travel, and square dancing. Gordon was a highly competitive card player and devoted many hours to his life long interest in philately. He will be missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Newdale United Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of choice.
