DARLEEN ELIZABETH ROWLEY (nee JORGINSON) October 31, 1937 - April 23, 2006 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Darleen, aged 68, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Darleen is survived by Barry, her husband of 47 years; and her children, Wendy Harrison (Ian), Colleen Tanaka (Lester), and Wayne Rowley (Margarita). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Mark and Amy Harrison and Luke and Dayna Tanaka. Darleen is also survived by her sister Theda Skalesky (Russell), her brother Murray Jorginson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Ted (1983) and Pearle (2004) Jorginson. Darleen was born and raised in Selkirk, MB. She graduated as a Registered Nurse with the Class of 58B from the Winnipeg General Hospital. She married Barry on January 3, 1959 and they moved to St. Catharines, ON. They subsequently lived in The Pas and Birtle, MB before settling in Winnipeg in 1968. After graduating from nursing, Darleen worked for a number of years before staying home to raise her family. She returned to nursing at Oakview Place in 1976, retiring from there as the Director of Care in 1991. Darleen discovered painting shortly after retiring and gifted many with her beautiful works of art. She spent endless hours painting Barry's woodworking creations. She also enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, and feeding the deer at the cottage at Buffalo Point. She was an active member of the Westwood Presbyterian Church and enjoyed volunteering in her community, most recently at the House of Hesed. Darleen will be remembered for her beautiful smile, and her loving, caring, compassionate nature. She was a loyal and trusted friend, always ready to listen. She was the best wife and mother and patiently guided her cherished grandchildren. Darleen (and Barry) loved to travel and did so extensively over the years. It was while on vacation in New Zealand that Darleen was diagnosed with cancer. Unable to travel home, she passed away in Auckland, New Zealand with her family and friends by her side. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Middlemore and Auckland City Hospitals for their excellent and compassionate care, and the New Zealand Rotarians for their thoughtfulness and assistance. The loving phone calls, cards, and emails received from family and friends bridged the distance and brought great comfort. Our most profound thanks to Frank and Norma Schnerch, Darleen and Barry's travelling companions, for remaining in New Zealand an additional month until Darleen's passing. Your love and support was invaluable. A Memorial Service will be held at the Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive, Thursday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. Ronda Bosch, pastor of the Westwood Presbyterian Church, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Darleen's memory to the House of Hesed, 45 Edmonton St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1P8 or the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7. What really matters in life, or in dreams, is the music of love we hear in each scene.
