Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD ALAN GRIFFEN Peacefully after a long illness Richard Griffen passed away at the Grace General Hospital on Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Richard is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 42 years, Deanna; daughters, Darian (Chris) Stroud and Cathy (Chris) Griffen; beloved grandsons, Nicholas and Kole Stroud. He leaves to mourn his sister Joyce Hume; father-in-law Arthur Joistdahl; brother-in-law Orin Joistdahl (Sue); and special nieces, Jane (Simon) McDermot, Ann (Alex) Blaikely and Heather Hume; as well as nephews Peter and Rob Hume and countless friends. Richard was predeceased by his birth parents, Emma and Godfrey Masters as a small child, also his parents in Swan River, Martha and Fred Griffen; his sisters, Violet Anderson and Addie Wright. As well as his mother-in-law Mrs. Arthur Joistdahl. Richard was born in Winnipeg, MB, and shortly there after moved to Swan River where he grew up. Richard attended Notre Dame College in Wilcox, SK, making lifelong friends whose friendship and brotherly love supported him to his very last days. He was an excellent athlete in his youth and had a great love for all sports throughout his life. Richard was a founding member of the Reh-Fit Centre. He was an original member of the Gritty Grottos, which was soon to become the Reh-Fit Centre. He supported the centre in many ways for 22 years. Richard worked for 32 years for the Province of Manitoba in various locations throughout Manitoba. He was a positive influence on many young people through employment opportunities and education. Richard's favourite place was the cottage at Ochre Beach where he spent his summers golfing, fishing and enjoying his children and grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Grace General Hospital (5th floor) for their compassionate care and support and Dr. S. Sinha for his many years of care. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Kirkfield Park United Church, 472 Kirkfield St. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca Remembrances may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or to a charity of one's choice in Richard's memory.
