NICK JANZ Nick Janz passed away on April 27, 2006 at the age of 93 years. He was born in Siberia on September 28, 1912 to Abram and Elizabeth Janz. He is survived by his wife Sara (nee Peters); daughters, Rose (Ernie) Froese, Elsie (Mark) Molloy, Sally (John) Krahn and son Leonard (Hermina) Janz; grandchildren, Sandra Froese, Janice (Sean) Fehr, Sheldon (Stacy) Froese, Jennifer Molloy, Allison Molloy (friend Steve Dupuis), Genevieve Krahn (friend Brad Otley), Becky Krahn, Josh Krahn, Amy Krahn (friend Jason Neufeld), Jessica (Jamie) Cote, Luc, Joe and Megan Janz; great-grandchildren, Travis Froese, Liam and Emma Molloy, Carollyne, Sarah and Mercedes Fehr; and one sister-in-law Mary Janz. He was predeceased by seven brothers, one sister and one grandchild Kelly. Nick immigrated to Canada with his parents and his brothers, John, George and Aron at the age of 17. He left behind four older brothers and their families whom he never saw again. The family settled in Barkfield, MB on a farm. He met his wife Sara while working on a farm in Glenlea, MB. They were married in Glenlea on October 4, 1941. Nick and Sara farmed in Grunthal, MB for many years. He was a pastor of the Elim Mennonite Church in Grunthal. After he retired from farming, he opened Cottonwood Corner Game Farm. His greatest joy was involving his family, especially the grandchildren, in this venture. His favourite animal was the African lion, Simba with whom he shared a special bond. Many school children enjoyed the wagon rides and stories he told. He especially enjoyed working with the youth groups in the church and the school children. After retiring from the Game Farm, they lived independently until he was 90, when they moved to the seniors' apartments in town. In the last three years, between multiple surgeries and hospital stays, he still continued to farm with his son Leonard, looking after his buffalo and making hay. The family would like to thank Dr. Thiessen, Dr. Garba, Dr. Yaffe and especially Dr. Duplessis and the staff at the St. Pierre Hospital for the compassionate care during the last few months. Special thanks also to Pastor Jarrod Chamberlin for his support and to the home care staff and nurses at the seniors' apartments. The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elim Mennonite Church in Grunthal, MB. Viewing will be on Sunday, April 30 with a devotion at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the St. Pierre-Jolys Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
