COLIN WADE WASKUL Peacefully, with his wife Allison by his side, Colin Waskul, aged 32 years, passed away at the Riverview Health Centre on Thursday, April 27, 2006. Colin will be forever cherished and missed by his wife Allison and their son Andrew; his mother Vicky; father Ben and stepmother Jean; brother Darren; stepsister Amanda (Joseph); father and mother-in-law, Roy and Laura Benson; brother-in-law David Benson and his wife Danielle. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends are all deeply saddened by his passing. Colin was born October 19, 1973 in Winnipeg. He spent his early childhood in Winnipeg and moved to Lockport in 1978. As a child, Colin looked forward to going for rides with Darren in his Dad's big truck . Even at this early age, Colin was always so curious and fascinated with heavy equipment. Colin also enjoyed taking trips out to his grandparents' farms in Vita, Manitoba. This is when he developed his great love for the outdoors. Colin graduated from Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive School in 1993. There, he met the love of his life and future wife Allison, whom he married in July 1999. Soon after high school Colin followed his love for trucking and decided to pursue a career as a long distance truck driver. He drove for Bison Transport for three years travelling all over North America. Colin, who was so ambitious and always looked for ways to better himself decided he wanted to return to school for a post secondary education. In 1997, Colin enrolled into the four year Apprenticeship program through Assiniboine Community College in Brandon. There, Colin maintained a 90% average through all four years of his training. Colin enjoyed apprenticing at Sterling Truck Center and worked at Peterbilt Manitoba up until his diagnosis in March 2003. Again, with Colin's ambitious nature he applied and was accepted into the fall 2005 Electrical Engineering Program at Red River Community College. There he had hoped to pursue a career in this field. The joy of Colin and Allison's life, Andrew, was born September 29, 2002. Colin took immense pride in raising his son during the short time they had together. He thoroughly enjoyed taking Andrew ice fishing, walking him to school and taking him on frequent trips to S.I.R. Colin would often joke with Andrew about how he was his little clone . It was very fortunate that Colin was healthy enough to enjoy a family vacation to San Diego, California in March 2006. Colin who was an outdoor enthusiast took great pleasure in golfing, fishing, shooting and hunting. He was an active member of the Manitoba Wildlife Association. During the summer, Colin could often be found on the golf course with Shayne, Mr. Schreyer, Uncle Emile or planning his next fishing trip with his Uncle Frank. Colin also took great pride in shooting his first royal elk and catching his 30 inch Walleye. During Colin's courageous three year battle with Leukemia, many came to admire his constant drive and determination to overcome his illness. He always remained positive and his sense of spirituality helped carry him through his journey. Even on the day of his passing and being admitted to Riverview, Colin's strong will, sense of humour and drive was still present. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at CancerCare Manitoba for their constant compassion and support. We would like to extend our special thanks to his nurse Jayne Kasian and Dr. Morel Rubinger. In lieu of flowers, donations in Colin's honour can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Manitoba. A celebration of Colin's life will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street (West St. Paul), on Monday, May 1 at 10:00 a.m. Interment and Reception will follow immediately after the service. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at www.gleneden-mb.ca
