ELEANOR WINNIK (nee NAZAR) May 27, 1922 - April 28, 2006 Peacefully on Friday evening, with her family by her side, Eleanor passed away. She was born in Winnipeg, the youngest daughter of Wasyl Nazar and Kayda Wowk. She was very close to her brother Joe and sister Evelyne. In 1942, Eleanor married John Winnik and together they had a successful construction business. Their only daughter Janice was born in 1950. Eleanor was widowed in 1953 when John died of polio. Eleanor's second husband was Eddie Kopychanski and they enjoyed 20 years of dancing and casinos before his death of cancer. After a minor stroke in February of 2003, Eleanor resided for a short time at Deer Lodge Centre and then at Poseidon Care Centre for 2 ½ years. Although less mobile, her mind was sharp and she still enjoyed visiting the Regent casino. Eleanor was sociable and had a sense of humour. She enjoyed the company of friends and relatives. Eleanor will be sadly missed by her daughter Jan Winnik (Jerry Johnstone), grandson Dean, and granddaughter Cheryl. She also leaves to mourn her passing stepsister Helen, niece Lorraine, Eddie's son Dennis and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the 3rd Floor Staff of Poseidon Care Centre for their kind and gentle care of Eleanor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eleanor's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 6 Donald St., Wpg., MB R3L 0K6.
