MURIEL ELIZABETH MEADOWS It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Elizabeth Meadows on April 29, 2006 at the Minnedosa District Hospital. Muriel was born in Winnipeg to Alice and Samuel Lyons on April 6, 1922. Muriel's earlier years were spent in the Stonewall and Gunton districts. Following graduation from Normal School, Muriel taught school at Otterburne. She received her Bachelor of Pedagogy (Honours) from the University of Manitoba and continued her teaching career in Scotland, Australia, and New Zealand. On her return, she studied speech and hearing pathology in Kent, OH. She became a speech and hearing therapist in several Winnipeg schools and later in Vancouver. Muriel married Edward Meadows in 1968 and moved to their home on the farm at Minnedosa. She became the first speech and hearing therapist in the Rolling River School Division. Muriel was very fond of flowers and was actively involved in the local horticultural society, arranging flowers and judging at horticultural shows. She served a term as President of the Manitoba Horticultural Association. She was named a life member of both the Minnedosa Horticultural Society and the Manitoba Horticultural Association. Muriel was a faithful member of the Minnedosa United Church, Senior Choir, and the United Church Women's group for many years. Muriel was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Samuel Lyons; two sistersinlaw, Gloria Meadows of Winnipeg and Dorothy Smith of Windsor, ON; her brotherinlaw Bob Meadows of Vancouver. She is survived by her husband Edward Meadows; two brothers, Allan (Jean) Lyons of Edmonton, Leonard (Mary) Lyons of Maple Ridge, BC; two brothersinlaw, Tom Meadows and Don Meadows (Leslie) of Winnipeg; sisterinlaw Tess Meadows of Vancouver; also several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. The funeral service for Muriel will be held at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Shawn Ankenmann officiating. Interment will be held at the Minnedosa Cemetery. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Minnedosa United Church Rebuilding Fund.
