SUSAN LAWRYNIUK (nee MACHNIK) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Susan Lawryniuk at the Victoria General Hospital on Friday, April 28, 2006. Susan is survived by Ted, her husband of 52 years; daughters, Judy Browne (Ken), Debbie Hassar (Wayne) and son Richard (Brooke). Grandma will also be especially missed by her grandsons, Connor and Ryan and granddaughters, Rylie and Rowyn. Her memory will also be cherished by her large extended family. Mom was born in the Ukraine in 1932. Her teen years were difficult as she was separated from her family during the war. Mom was sustained by her faith in God which remained the foundation of her life to the very end. She was reunited with family members just as they were leaving for Canada, although Mom had to remain behind until she could join them later. Once in Canada she met and married Ted and together they raised three children. Ted and Susan also opened their home in St. Vital to a number of foster children. The Lawryniuk home was open and welcoming to friends, family and everyone who visited. There was always lots of tasty home made food on the table whatever the occasion. Visitors often left the house with a care package of goodies from Mom's kitchen or pantry. Family was always very important to Mom, her grandchildren especially so. Connor, Ryan, Rylie and Rowyn just lit up her life! Mom was always willing to do what she could for family. As friends and neighbours became closer, they also became family. Mom had a green thumb, although it could also be red or blue depending on which berries were in season. Mom spent a lot of time in the garden planting, weeding and picking. This was often followed by a session of cooking, canning or freezing. Mom also took pride in her flowers whether they were grown indoors or out. Mom was a proud Canadian. She treasured her citizenship and was thankful that Canada accepted her and gave her a place to call home. The family would like to thank Dr. F. Salem and the staff at the Victoria General Hospital for the care and kindness extended to Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Susan's memory to Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, R3P 1B8 or Calvary Place Personal Care Home, 1325 Erin St., Winnipeg, R3E 3R6. We invite friends and family to celebrate Susan's life with us. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Funeral services for Susan will take place on Thursday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m., also at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow. CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
