MARY (MARIE) HORODYSKI (nee SYROTA) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary on Friday, April 28, 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital at 92 years of age with her family by her side. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her son Robert, daughters Helen Funk and Gloria Kmiec; grandchildren Kevin (Kim) Funk, Kim (Denis) Champagne, and Kurt (Darlene) Funk; great grandchildren Candace, Kyler, Paris, Chantel, Monique, Danielle, Jaclyn and Brittany; sisters-in-law Olga and Dorothy Syrota and nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband Anthony in 1978, her mother Anne, father, William, brothers Frank, Peter, Joe and Maurice and son-in-law Edward Kmiec. She was born in Winnipeg on February 14, 1914 and married Anthony in 1936. They raised their family in a rural community just south of St. Norbert. In addition to bringing up her family, mom worked in a candy factory, for a market gardener and in the dietary section of the Health Sciences Centre and the Victoria General Hospital. Mom loved to grow flowers and a variety of vegetables in her garden and was very generous in sharing them with her family, friends and co-workers. In 1972 Mary was stricken with cancer. Because she attended to things immediately, she was a cancer survivor for 34 years. The family would like to thank Dr. Sheila Domke and the staff of 3 North at the Victoria General Hospital for the care given to her in the final days of her illness. A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Thursday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home with Father Jan Spyrka officiating. Cremation has taken place and interment will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9A9 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 THOMSON IN THE PARK FUNERAL HOME AND CEMETERY 1291 MCGILLIVRAY BLVD (BETWEEN PEMBINA WAVERLEY) 925-1120
