DOUGLAS FOSTER On April 28, 2006 at the age of 94 years, after a brief illness Doug left us peacefully to join the late Theresa Foster, to whom he was absolutely devoted for more than 68 years. He served as an officer in the RCAF during the Second World War and was a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion. His employers included People's Credit Jewellers, James Richardson Sons and the Winnipeg Electric Co. After retiring from the Canadian National Railway he continued to pursue his interest in telegraphy with the Morse Telegraph Club, serving as President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Winnipeg chapter for 18 years. Doug was always a gentleman. He was a good husband and father, multi-talented and hardworking. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a zest for living and took great pleasure in making people laugh. He loved to sing, solve crossword puzzles, shoot pool, swim and, in his earlier years, speed skate and play baseball. He pampered his cars and enjoyed driving across North America with Theresa, sightseeing and visiting relatives and friends. They also travelled to Hawaii. He is survived by: his daughters, Sheila Stanley (David) and Brenda Yost (Allen); son Ken Foster (Susan); grandchildren, Scott Stanley, Andrew Stanley (Leanne), Jennifer Weininger (Michael) and Trevor Stanley; great-grandchildren, Drew, Finn, Grace, Jack, and Helen; sister Molly Proudfoot; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Ethel Foster and brothers, John, Claude and Athol. Requiem mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4 at St. Alphonsus Church, Munroe Avenue at Brazier, by Fr. Pierre Wood. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Thank you to the staff and volunteers at Bethania Personal Care Home. In Doug's memory donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
