MARILYNN SKROMEDA (nee MACGREGOR) Marilynn, beloved wife of Peter passed away on April 29, 2006 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 69. Marilynn was born in St. Andrews, MB February 6, 1937. Upon graduation from St. Mary's Academy, Marilynn entered the St. Boniface School of Nursing until her marriage to Peter on October 7, 1955. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage together, and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary October 7, 2005. Marilynn was predeceased by her father Hilton in 2003. Besides her husband Peter; she leaves to mourn her mother Phyllis; her three children, Kim, Debbie and Warren (Veronica); and five grandchildren, Brianna, Melissa, Hillary, Kirstyn and Julia. Marilynn was a vibrant and active woman who over the years developed many cherished friendships and a wide variety of interests. She loved to spend her summer months at Ponemah and weekends at Kenora where her grandchildren were always welcome to spend the summer with her. Many afternoons were spent on the beach, going for ice cream, renting movies, bingo at the community centre or nights chatting around the firepit. Marilynn was a proud and supportive grandmother, who attended many concerts and graduations or cheered loudly from the sidelines of the soccer field or the stands of a ringette game. Her love of music was developed early, learning to play the piano as a child. Eventually she discovered line dancing, often dancing two evenings a week and at special events like the Red River Exhibition. Line dancing was a source of pleasure for her, and the trips to Las Vegas and Chicago will be fondly remembered. Travel was not only for linedancing, Marilynn loved to travel as well. Together, Marilynn and Peter travelled to many countries all over the world and spent many winters in Florida visiting family and friends. Volunteering at Seven Oaks Hospital was one of her favorite fall and winter activities where she was very generous with her time and efforts. One of the many duties while at hospital was as the coordinator and buyer for the gift shop and this year Marilynn was to be recognized for dedicating 25 years of service at the hospital. Marilynn was also a member of St. Anne's Church Ladies Auxiliary where she helped with the arrangements for special occasions and other functions. A very creative person, she loved to garden. Her flower gardens at home, and at the cabins at Ponemah and Kenora were beautiful and on occasion won awards. Her evenings were spent knitting, sewing and making handicrafts for her family and friends, often donating them to the church. It was not uncommon with the onset of winter for Marilynn to be knitting special mittens, scarves and sweaters for the grandkids, and in the last few years, knit many items for friends as well. Marilynn's dedication and commitment was evident in everything that she did. The last forty years she worked in the office of the family business until her passing. She was also the caregiver to her parents and enjoyed helping out whenever possible and planning fun outings together. Always eager to help, Marilyn assisted in the care of her sister-in-law Lily, often going shopping for clothes together. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, and her memory will remain fondly in our hearts forever. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Anne's Anglican Church, 253 Burrin Ave. in Winnipeg with Rev. David Adams officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to service. Cremation will follow. Her pallbearers will be Barry Gessner, David Skromeda, Randy Skromeda, Chris Woloshyn, Michael Law and Derek Law. A special thank you to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital Unit 6 and the S.I.C.U. at the Health Sciences Centre. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
