HENRY DAVID GORZEN 1931 - 2006 Peacefully in his sleep on April 30, 2006, at the Health Sciences Centre, Henry passed away. He is mourned by his loving wife of 53 years, Julie; daughter Dianne Majury (Brian) and his beloved granddaughter Michelle ( Nikki ). Also saddened by his passing are brothers, John and Peter (Hazel); sister Anne Iwuc; sisters-in-law, Lorraine and Jean; as well as his nieces and nephews. His father David, mother Anna, stepmother Helen and brother Dave predeceased him. Henry was born in Winnipeg on September 21, 1931. He attended Dufferin School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. As a young lad, he delivered newspapers and was a pinsetter at the local bowling alley. Later on, he was a machinist at Monarch Machinery and Bristol Aerospace. Henry then switched careers and worked for Stevens Paints and Canada Sandpaper as a salesman. In 1970 he started his own body shop supply business Henry's Distributors. Henry built up and ran his successful business for several years. After selling his business, he served as a sales agent for Norton Abrasives until his retirement. In the early 1950s, Henry met Julie. Henry married the love of his life in 1953. Daughter Dianne arrived soon thereafter. The family first setup home in the West End, briefly moved to Vancouver, and finally settled in St. James. Henry cherished his family most in life. His wife Julie, daughter Dianne and his granddaughter Michelle. He was always eager and willing to help family, and friends in any way he could. Through his kindness and generosity he touched many people's lives and will forever be remembered. Henry and Julie loved to travel, especially to his favorite destination - Hawaii. Henry loved to play cards, watch classic movies (especially musicals), go fishing and tend to his garden. In his retirement years, he kept himself busy by learning to play golf, going for coffee with the boys and touring in his big, blue Chrysler 5th Avenue. Henry loved to tell stories and was at his best in social situations. No matter where or when, Henry had a story to tell. He was an excellent raconteur and could keep you entertained for hours. With his easy-going style and gift of gab, he and Julie made many life-long friends. He will be dearly missed. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the CCU, Dialysis Unit and 4th floor wards of the General Hospital for the excellent care they provided to him. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 4 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with a reception to follow. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca. Remembrances may be made to the Kidney foundation of Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba in Henry's memory.
