VERA BERNICE SPEER (nee TURRIFF) Peacefully, on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Concordia Hospital, our beloved mother and grandmother, Vera Speer, passed away at age 82. Mom was born January 6, 1924 in Transcona. Except for a short time in her mid-teens, she lived in Transcona until she met and married Dad in 1954, at which time she moved to the farm just west of Oakbank. In 1964 the family moved to Transcona and mom took various jobs over the years, mostly as a receptionist. She has also been involved with, and had many interests, including the Sons of Scotland, The Transcona Horticultural Society and The Irish Association of Manitoba. She also kept herself busy at home by knitting and watching TV, her favourites being shows like CSI and NCIS. Mom was predeceased by her husband James (1988), her father Malcolm (Bibs) Turriff (1980) and her mother Louise Turriff (1962). Mom will be remembered and missed by her daughters, Mildred and Margaret (Fred); grandchildren, Megan and James; brother John (Blanche) of Osoyoos, BC and their family, John, Rhonda, Brad and families; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Our very deepest appreciation goes to the staff of N3E, N3W and ICU at Concordia Hospital, also to SICU and MICU at St. Boniface Hospital. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Virginia Coleman on Monday, May 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. If friends so wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be appreciated. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
