MARY IRENE NASH Irene was born June 30, 1907, at the corner of Walnut Street and Dundurn Place. Her parents moved to Ross Avenue and Irene attended Pinkham School. They moved next to homestead near Durban, MB and she attended Durban School until the end of grade 11. In order to have Irene attend the Winnipeg Normal School, and her family moved to Winnipeg. At Normal School, she did her practicum at Pinkham School. Her first school was at Belle Site (now Belle River) and she was the first teacher. While at Belle Site she met her future husband, Frank Clifford Nash. After teaching at Bernie for two years, she married Clifford. She is predeceased by her dear husband, son-in-law Ron and parents, William and Euphemia (McDonald) Thompson and is survived by her daughter Eleanor Johnson, granddaughter Ardyth, grandson Lloyd and his wife Lori, her sister Eleanor Sweet and her family. She also has nieces and nephews in England. Her teaching career included Belle Site, Bernie, Pine Ridge, substituting in St. James and Kirkfield Park, and full-time in Allard School. Irene attended St. Martin-in-the-Fields and was the tea convener for several years. When moving to Woodhaven, Irene attended St. Andrew's Anglican Church and was a member of the Ladies Guild and Altar Guild for which she sewed and embroidered. She lived in the Courts of St. James for many years and then Golden West Lodge. Irene was a happy, talented person and had many friends and will be missed. Her funeral will be held at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Portage Avenue at Woodhaven Boulevard on Tuesday, May 9 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ian Mills officiating.
