MARGARET ISABELLE LOWDON (nee SHAW) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, mother-in-law, grandma and great-grandma, Margaret Isabelle Lowdon. Marg was born on February 20, 1917, and passed away on April 26, 2006 at the age of 89 years. After high school, Margaret attended Normal School in Winnipeg, returning to the Swan River Valley to teach. Marg met Tom Lowdon, and they married on December 6, 1939, beginning their life of 60 years together. They farmed in the Shaw District until their retirement in 1974. During that time, Marg also returned to teaching at Lidstone and Kenville, and was very active in the Women's Institute. When they retired, they purchased a mobile home in the Pine-to-Palm Park in Weslaco, TX, which provided a home for 26 enjoyable winters. Music was always a large part of Margaret's life, and many hours were spent in front of the piano, both as teacher and entertainer. She was frequently accompanied by her sister Marian on the organ, and her brother Gordon on the saxophone, or with her Pine-to-Palm band, often with her husband Tom singing the tunes. Besides music, Marg always enjoyed a good game of cards, frequently with several trips around her chair to improve her luck when the right cards just weren't coming. Margaret had a wonderful disposition, rarely expressing an unkind thought. When things weren't going right, who doesn't remember her saying, Well, so be it, or This too shall pass. Tom passed away on June 19, 2000, at which time Margaret moved to Winnipeg to the Oakview Personal Care Home to be close to her family. Unfortunately, Alzheimer's disease started to take Marg from us many years ago, and may she now finally rest in peace. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the staff at Oakview Place, and to Dr. Ian Maharaj, for the dedicated care and support during these very difficult years. Margaret leaves to mourn her passing her three precious sons, Ron and his daughter Dana (Daryl), their daughters, Jamie and Samantha, and his sons, Terry and Corey; Don (Linda Sherlow) and their son Cameron (Mary); and Ken (Debbie Vopni) and their sons, Ryan and Mark (Kristin). She is also survived by one sister Marian (Lumax) and sister-in-law Mary (Shaw). Marg was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Shaw, her husband Tom, her sister Jean (Madsen) and her brothers, Jack and Gordon. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 2 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Andrews United Church, Swan River, with Rev. Salesi Takau officiating. Margaret was laid to rest in the Birchwood Cemetery, Swan River, following the service. Pallbearers were Terry, Ryan, Corey, and Mark Lowdon, Daryl Wiebe and Brian Anderson. Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Margaret's honour may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, or to the Manitoba Lung Association. Honoured to serve the Family, Paull Funeral Home and Crematorium 506 2nd Street North, Swan River, 734-4556
