DOROTHY E. STEWART It is with sadness, the family announces the passing of Dorothy Stewart on Friday, May 5, 2006 at the Heritage Lodge. Dot will be lovingly remembered by her brothers Kenneth, Percy and Melvin and their families. She was predeceased by her parents Duncan and Elsie (nee Simmons) Stewart of Pleasant Dale, SK; brother Arthur Stewart and sister Evelyn O'Brien-Smith. Also remembering her fondly is the family of the late Burnham and Mary Calvert, who raised Dot from the age of 9, after her mother had passed away. The Calvert family includes Ruth McKenzie, Harold Calvert and Evelyn Dempsey and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Alba Calvert and George Calvert. Dorothy Eileen L. Dot moved to Vancouver in 1944 and nursed there until contracting T.B. She returned to Manitoba and stayed at the Sanatorium at Ninette, until her recovery. Dot then continued her nursing career in 1950 at the Winnipeg General Hospital. In 1961 she enrolled at the University of Manitoba, and obtained her Bachelor of Nursing degree. She returned to the Women's Pavilion H.S.C. until her retirement as a nursing supervisor in July 1983. Dot loved to travel; she travelled the world, visiting her British relatives on many occasions and travelled with her long time friend, the late Alice Chalmers. The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Lodge who cared for Auntie Dot during her stay there. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carberry United Church, Carberry, MB.
