Date of Passing: May 04, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT JOHN WARD March 2, 1957 May 4, 2006 It is with deep sadness our family announces that Bob, the dearly beloved husband of Rita Marie Ward and father of Robert Joseph Douglas Ward, passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre. He was predeceased by his grandfather, David Halley Jackson; grandmother, Edith Maud Jackson; and his mother, Donna May Ward. Besides his wife and son, he leaves to mourn his brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Maureen Hay; nephew and nieces, James, Jacqueline and Justine, as well as cousins and many friends. Bob was raised by his mother and grandparents in the west end of Winnipeg. He attended Greenway Elementary School, General Wolfe Junior High, and Daniel MacIntyre High School. Bob went on to the University of Manitoba where he attained a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) Degree in Marketing, and later a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and Accounting. Bob held management positions at Eaton's and Northern Telecom before becoming self employed as a management consultant. Sport and competition were early interests which continued throughout his life. Bob instilled his love of sport in his son. He always gave his unwavering support by taking an active leadership role in many clubs and organizations. This included everything from coaching his son's baseball team to becoming president of his alpine ski club. He made so many friends through skiing. He loved going on family ski trips and to ski races with his son and his friends. He also loved going to the family cottage in Matlock. He spent a lot of time there during the summer months. He loved the people there, and valued the friendships he made. During the time he spent there he introduced his family to golf, which became a family pastime for many years. Bob lived his life with total dedication to his family. He was a caregiver to his grandparents, mother, wife and son. He was their strength, protector and best friend. Bob was so proud of his son's accomplishments. When diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension, his will to continue on with his family sustained him against all odds. He never stopped fighting to live. Saying goodbye so soon comes with great sadness, but he left knowing he led a full life with no regrets. Our family extends special thanks to Dr. Bshouty, Clara Weiss, and the staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion. For the many people whose lives Bob touched, we invite you to attend a celebration of his life. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10 at Thompson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway Ave. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, contributions may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave. or to a charity of their choice.
