VICTOR SOPKO The family of Victor Sopko regretfully announces his sudden passing on May 7, 2006 at the age of 71 after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Victor was predeceased by his parents Louis and Doris Sopko and his sister Doreen (Smith). Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 50 years, Jeanette, son Jeff, daughter in law, Michele, grandsons Rylan and Tyler, brother Nelson, sister in law Kathleen, nieces Cheryl (Jeff) Klos, Cindy Price and nephews Rodney (Sandy) Smith and Kevin Sopko. Vic spent his adult years working as a gardener for the City of Winnipeg, taking great pride in the planting and nurturing of many of the floral displays in the gardens, parks and civic buildings that we all enjoyed year after year. His lawn at home was perfectly manicured and he was always trying to produce a higher yield from his prized tomato plants. Vic loved to dance, whether at home in the living room or at a good ole Ukrainian Wedding. Even when his arthritis made doing the polka too painful, he could still be seen clapping his hands and tapping his toes. Vic also enjoyed many years with the Kildonan Northstars as equipment manager. He loved the long road trips, the responsibilities and especially, the camaraderie of the players. They were his extended family, and Vic was proud of all their endeavors. After Jeanette was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Vic dedicated his time to her health and well-being, always embracing his role as her primary care-giver. His devotion towards his wife never faltered, even through his last days. Vic will be lovingly remembered by his precious grandsons. Gigi was never too tired or sick to play board games or make them perogies for lunch, and he always took great pride in their accomplishments, both big and small. He was a warm-hearted person, always ready to lend a helping hand and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to send sincere thanks to the nurses at the St. Boniface Hospital, and a special thank you to Nurses Karen, Heather and Bonny for their kind words and genuine concern. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, c/o St Boniface Hospital, 409 Tache St, Winnipeg, MB. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, with interment and reception to follow. Father Gary Killen officiating. In the beauty of his flowers is The reflection of his soul The wind whispers through their petals And on it His spirit soars Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main St. 338-7111
