CHARLES HENRY GEARD (1932 - 2006) After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Charles Henry Geard passed away on May 5, 2006. He leaves to mourn his son James (Lisa) Geard, grandsons, Liam and Ethan; daughter Leanne (Fred) Betker, grandson Dusten and granddaughter Shelby; brother Edward (Evelyn) Geard; sisters, Patricia Sherlow and Edith Mae Jablonski; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marie in 2002; parents, Harry and Nellie Geard; mother and father-in-law, Arthur and May Switzer; brothers-in-law, Les Sherlow, Ed Jablonski, Don Switzer, Don Geesen; sister-in-law Ivy Switzer. Charlie worked a few jobs before he became a butcher and found work at the Selkirk Mental Health Center where he was a fixture for over 34 years. In his spare time he liked being outside tinkering, just waiting for his real passion to begin - baseball. Whether it was playing fastball with the Frontiersmen in his younger days, to umpiring minor baseball, to sitting and coaching the Blue Jays on the TV. He loved the company of the grandchildren so he could play and act like the kids. Charlie also enjoyed the Army, Navy unit #151 Selkirk where he was on the executive and a member for numerous years. The family wishes to thank Dr. Badenhorst and all the wonderful nurses at the Selkirk General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie's memory can be made to the CancerCare Foundation of Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 0V9. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB with Rev. Ken DeLisle officiating.
