ELSIE FRANCIS We are sad to announce the passing of our Mother Elsie Francis on May 5, 2006 with her family by her side. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Lionel in 1997 and by her grandson Kerry Francis in December, 2005, also by her brothers, Bill, Albert, Fred and sister Emily. We were devastated to hear of the sudden passing of her daughter, Marion on the very same day as Elsie. Marion was predeceased by her husband Jerry St. Pierre in May, 1966 when she then moved to Victoria, BC where she raised her four children. Elsie will be missed by her children and their families son Bill (Benita) Darren, Sheryl, Tom and Jim; son Arnie (Pat) Brad, Bart and Brandi; daughter Marion's children, Dean, Dana, Sherri and Jerry; son Brian (Donna) Kevin and Vaughn; daughter Kay McKay (Grant) Greg and Jeff and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Marg, Kay, Flo and Myrtle and brother Trueman. The oldest of 10 children, Elsie was born in Winnipeg on February 2, 1911 to Mary and Robert Seekings. The family moved to Headingley when she was six years old and Elsie soon developed her love of animals especially dogs and horses. Elsie was an independent woman. She was always very involved with the Anglican Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She attended church every Sunday and loved the interaction with her friends there. She was a 4-H leader for over 20 years and taught many young people how to sew and knit. In her late 50's Elsie began a new hobby of painting and proved to be very artistic. After her kids were grown Mom worked part time at Eatons Mail order for many years and then at the age of 56 began a new career at Wawanesa Insurance where she worked until she retired at 70 years old. She was able to stay in her own home in Headingley with Miss Daisy until the age of 92 when she moved to Oakview and then to West Park Manor where she lived for the last three years. She was well known for her enthusiastic singing, her amazing flexibility and her sense of humor. We want to thank the wonderful staff at West Park for the loving care and kindness they gave Mom. A memorial service will be held on Friday May 12, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 5335 Portage Avenue, Headingley MB, R4H 1J9. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church.
