BARBARA WATSON (TALLIN) It is with great sadness that Barbara Watson's family announces her sudden but peaceful passing at the Victoria General Hospital on May 9, 2006. Barb will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, creative flair and wonderful sense of humour. Her legacy resides in a thousand hand sewn bridesmaid dresses, knitted sweaters, blankets, and all manner of handmade, hand-crafted, specially designed gifts, often given for no other reason than that Barb was happiest giving to others. Readers of this tribute will, we hope, remember with affection some gift given to them by Barb. Her son Ben was the light of her life and she was steadfastly dedicated to him. Barb is survived by her son Benjamin, his father Chris, her partner and best friend, Guy Whitehill, Guy's son Pat, and her mother Patricia Watson. She will be deeply missed by her siblings, Sheila and Michael Barta, Catherine and Donald Vincent, Michael and Janet Watson, Liz Watson, and Jennifer and Michael Sorobey. Barb will also be sorely missed and fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, as well as the Tallin family and her friends and colleagues at Design Manitoba. She was predeceased by her father, John Watson, and her mother-in-law and friend, Betsy Tallin. Barb's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of the Victoria General Hospital who ministered to Barb with much kindness and care. A celebration of Barb's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13 at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 3 St. Vital Rd., with a reception to follow. A private interment will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish to remember Barb might choose to make a donation to World Vision, or to a trust which has been established for the benefit of her young son, Ben, care of the Benjamin Tallin Trust at the Steinbach Credit Union, 2100 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1X2. Rest easily Barb.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I first met Barb in September 1981 in a Fundamentals of Drawing class at the University of Manitoba. A group of us young artists quickly started hanging out together. I remember a bunch of us having a few drinks at the U of M pub immediately before drawing our first nude model. The assumption was that the model would be female. It turned out to be a rather overconfident male, much to Barb’s and our friend Tanis’s very obvious, slightly intoxicated delight! We had many good times in art school, including one evening attempting to liberate an enormous US flag from its pole in Minneapolis to dinner parties and simply hanging out. Barb was fun loving, spirited, warm and friendly and obviously in possession of many talents. I have many happy memories of her. She was a lovely person and I’m sure missed by all who knew her. - Posted by: Paul McLennan (Friend) on: May 11, 2021
