IRENE KOEHLER (nee PONTING) On May 6, 2006 at the Bethania Personal Care Home my mum passed away. I, her only daughter Maureen Morin will dearly miss her and her quirky sense of humour. She is survived by her extended family and many friends as well as her cat Sally. Mum was predeceased by my dad John in 1980; infant son Harry; her parents, Harry and Lily Ponting; many friends and in-laws; niece Jane and godson, Brent. Mum cherished her pet cats, Speedy, George, Freddie, Charlie and Kitty; dogs, Maggie and Barney and Myrtle the turtle whom Mum looked after for at least 30 years. Mum lived a few years in Elmwood and the rest of her life in Morse Place, where she made many dear friends, especially, the late Cecily and Tom Andrews, the late Margaret and Bob Andrews, Louise and Bud Crump, the late Kay Hunter and the late Ida Gordon. Mum attended St. Saviour's Anglican Church for many decades, and lately St. Catherine's Anglican Church. Mum was an avid gardener and very concerned about her apple trees. While she was able she maintained a beautiful English style garden. Her other love was animals and we always had a stray or two moving in. I would like to thank the staff at Misericordia Health Centre and Bethania Personal Care Home for their wonderful care. I would also like to thank, the late Mary McKay, who took Mum shopping for so many years, Marge Kiliwnik for being a good friend, Dave and Alice Varis for keeping an eye on Mum while she was still in her home. Maureen and Dan Sitar and their dog Daisy, Tom Andrews, Patti and Brian Michalski, Bob Andrews, Arlene and Pat Shirkey brightened my mum's days with their gifts and frequent visits. I would also like to thank the extended Andrews family. I would like to thank all of those already mentioned and Rev. Canon Bob Webster, the congregation of St. Catherine's, Naomi Krasovec, Joanne Hooey, Kristine Petrasko, Dr. C. Loop and the staff and volunteers on South Nursing Station at Bethania. A memorial service will take place on Monday, May 15 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Catherine's Anglican Church, 3202 Bird's Hill Rd. Memorial donations are appreciated for St. Catherine's Anglican Church, St. Saviour's Anglican Church or the Winnipeg Humane Society in Irene's name. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
