VIONA HELEN GIRARD Suddenly on Wednesday May 10, 2006, Viona Girard passed away at the St. Boniface General Hospital at the age of 61 years. Remaining to forever cherish Viona's memory are her husband Louis of 37 years of marriage; sons, Kelly and Gary; her sisters, Lynne Sawchuk (Matt), Dorothy and Betty-Ann Smith (Malcolm); her brothers, Jack and Jim; in-laws, Therese Murray (Jacques), Denis Girard, Sr. Yvette, Gilbert Girard (Yvette), Estelle Rivard (Norm), Aline Manaigre (Gilles) and Ben Girard (Janine). She was predeceased by her father Francis, mother Adelaide and brother David. On August 17, 1944 Viona was born in The Pas, MB, where she lived until 1968 when she married Louis and together they raised their two sons, Kelly and Gary. Viona will be missed by many. She always had a place in her heart for anyone needing help in anyway, often volunteering her time for many causes and organizations, or lending a hand wherever it was needed. Viona was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed family gatherings and was always eager to contribute in any way possible. Many dedicated hours were spent doing volunteer work for various community clubs promoting the sport of curling, which she loved. Viona achieved instructor status and conducted innumerable curling clinics for many schools through the MCA. Viona loved conversations, and was able to talk about many different subjects. Her telephone conversations often extended into hours. She loved meeting all kinds of people. As a volunteer with the Pan-Am Games she was a favourite due to looking out for the needs of officials from many different countries. Viona loved Spain and many Spanish things. Other special interest of hers were gardening and decorating the yard, knitting and a good book, as well as Scottish castles and the music of the bagpipes. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 17 at 1:00 p.m., in the Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Church (Assiniboia Christian Centre), 3390 Portage Ave. at Rouge Road with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault, P.H., V.F., presiding. A private family interment will be held in the Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Viona's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Viona's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
