PHYLLIS DROZD It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of our sister and aunt, Phyllis Drozd, on May 12, 2006, at the Health Sciences Centre. Left to mourn are her brother, Sam Smilski (Guyla); her nieces, Joanne Peters (Michael Dudar) and Allison Peters; her nephews, Reese Smilski (Daria Romaniuk) and their children, Gregory and Melanie, Robert Smilski (Sandra), and their children, Danielle and Caden. She will also be remembered by her brothers-in-law, Stanley (Bernice) and Joe Drozd; her sisters-in-law, Theresa Pelletier, Mary Dushenko, Sophie Payne, Nellie Willie (Cliff), and Millie Kreuz (John), their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Mike; her parents, Sam and Nettie Smilski; and her sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Alex Peters. Phyllis was born and raised in West Kildonan, and attended Victory School as well as West Kildonan Collegiate. After completing her education, she worked for the Government of Canada, Customs and Excise Department, until her retirement. She married Mike Drozd in 1969 and they lived in Winnipeg, where they enjoyed close ties with family and friends, both in the city and in Fannystelle, where Mike farmed. Phyllis was a woman of strong faith and attended Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church. She greatly enjoyed her work and involvement with the CPAC Seniors' Club, the Holy Family Ladies' Auxiliary, St. John's Cantius Seniors, and the West Kildonan Horticultural Society. Caring and thoughtful, Phyllis was completely devoted to her family, and a wonderful friend. We will miss her deeply and remember her, always with great love and affection for a lady of elegance and grace. The family would like to express its thanks to the Emergency Response Staff of the Winnipeg Fire Department and the medical staff of the Health Sciences Centre for their dedicated, professional, and compassionate care. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 17 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Phyllis' memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Cancer Care Manitoba, or to a charity of one's choice.
