PETER KASPER On Friday May 12, 2006 at Concordia Hospital, Peter Heinrich Kasper, aged 104 years, of Winnipeg was taken home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He was predeceased by his wife Anna in 1990, his daughter Maria in 2004 and his son Peter in 2005. He was born on July 1, 1901 in the town of Eichenfeld, Ukraine, USSR. He married Anna (nee Martens) on July 7, 1922. From the years 1914 1948 Peter lived through World War I, the Russian Revolution, the Great Depression and World War II. His eyewitness accounts of this time of his life were always riveting to hear. Fortunately Peter was able to immigrate with his wife, son and daughter to a new home in Canada on October 20, 1948 at the age of 47. Peter was always an industrious and hard working man and he spent the next 21 years working for Monarch Industries Limited as a machinist. Retirement saw him enjoying many years of building carpentry projects, travelling to the United States to visit family, and spending time with his grandchildren. His home was always open to church youth to gather, while he and his wife were still living on Ashburn Street. Peter also was a firm advocate of staying fit. He enjoyed daily walks well into his 90s. Having never owned a car, he did most of his travelling in the city on foot, which helped keep him vigorous and strong. He was blessed with amazing health up until his last day on earth. He was still living in his own apartment in the independent living section of Donwood Manor. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Hilda Kasper; three granddaughters, Susan Kasper, Nora Plett (Albert), Maria Funk (Jack); and three great-grandsons, Gordon, Thomas and Robert Funk. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 145 Henderson Hwy. Viewing prior to the service. Donations can be made to Family Life Network, 225 Riverton Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R2L 0N1. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 339-5555
