GERALD NICKEL It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gerald Nickel on Sunday, May 14, 2006 at his home in Petersfield, MB. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Maxine and their children, Gerry (Irene), Julia (Frank), Gina (David), Marcia (Dale); grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Benjamin, Joanne, Lisa, Brian, Amanda, Jediah and Rebecca; and faithful companion Dutchess. Dad was born June 9, 1931. He was raised in Winnipeg and worked for the CPR as a machinist. He was an active member and proud bandsman at Winnipeg City of the Salvation Army for many years. Dad and Mom retired to their beloved country nest in Petersfield where they enjoyed special times with family and friends. He loved his grandchildren and taught them how to fish, swim, canoe, ski and just have fun. Dad had a wonderful sense of humour and his big boisterous laugh could be heard all over the creek. He loved to go fast, from fast cars in his youth to his red speed boat in his retirement. He was an accomplished handyman and enjoyed his tools and toys. Dad was a very caring person and all who came in contact with him, not only remembered him; but loved him and respected him. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18 at 11:30 a.m. at The Salvation Army Heritage Park Corps, 825 School Rd., Winnipeg. All are invited to share Dad's memories at a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Salvation Army Winnipeg East Building Fund, 401 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R2K 2H4 or Manitoba Cancer Research. Thank you to Valerie and Dr. Pat Harris, Selkirk Paramedics and First Responders from the Clandeboye Fire Department for their efforts, and the RCMP Constables for their compassion and support. Thank you to all our dear friends for your many prayers.
