SHEILA MARIE SWAFFER

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHEILA MARIE SWAFFER (nee Nykyforuk) October 2, 1946 - May 15, 2006 Sheila passed away on May 15, 2006 after a courageous battle with lung cancer at Gimli Hospital. Sheila was predeceased by her father William Nykyforuk in 1992 and her mother Jeanne Nykyforuk in 2004. Sheila will be remembered by her loving husband Don, daughter Suzanne (friend Jason), son Paul (Billie-Jo) and the pride of her life, granddaughter Jayda. She will also be missed by her brother Fred (Barb) and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Sheila was born in Winnipeg and lived in East Kildonan throughout her school years, graduating from Miles MacDonell Collegiate in 1964. Sheila met the love of her life and friend Don in 1972 and married him in 1974, living in East Kildonan and North Kildonan, until moving out to Winnipeg Beach after retirement. Sheila retired with over 30 years of service from Canadian Heritage, retiring in 1997. She loved her retirement; doing the things she loved and wanted to do, such as gardening and designing her home to her own needs. Sheila was very active throughout her life. She was a past president of the Ladies Auxillary of the Prince Edward Legion, Branch No. 81, as well as being involved in the Ladies Shrine Auxillary. Sheila and her family would like to thank all of the Interlake Regional Health Authority and Home Care workers for all of their help and support throughout these troubled times. Thank you to the staff of Gimli Hospital for all the care and help that was offered on the many trips to the hospital for Sheila's care, and a special thank you to Julie Kumps for her help and care and concerns that she had for Sheila on her chemo trips and treatments. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., with interment and reception to follow. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Dennis, Dwayne, Robbie, Shaun and Jim Swaffer and Russell Franks. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sheila may be made to Healing Gardens at Gimli Hospital, payable to G.C.H.C Healing Gardens, Box 250, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0.
