DAVID EDWARD SLOAN Died at Toronto on May 17, 2006 at the age of 84 years. Beloved husband for 58 years of Kathleen (Craig) who passed away in February 2006. Dear father of Pamela (Roger Hill), David (Christine) and Anne. Loving Grandpa of Peter, Hilary, Laura, Elizabeth and Robert. Predeceased by his sister Eva Cogle. Born in Winnipeg, David graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1942 with the degree of Bachelor of Commerce. Shortly afterwards, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and served as a Lieutenant during the Second World War. In 1947, he joined Canadian Pacific Railway Company in Montreal and retired in 1988 as Treasurer of Canadian Pacific Limited and also President and CEO of Canadian Pacific Securities Limited. From 1967 to 1976, David served as a Member, and later as Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Canada Pension Plan of the Canadian Government. He also served as a director of several Canadian companies. David was a long time member of Rosedale United Church and The Toronto Hunt. The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, Toronto, phone number 1-800-616-3311, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Rosedale United Church, 159 Roxborough Dr., Toronto, with a reception to follow.
