HETTIE C. CARSE (nee MCGREGOR) 1912 - 2006 Hettie Cruickshank Carse passed away peacefully on April 28, 2006, in her 94th year. Hettie was the youngest child of Henrietta and Alexander McGregor. She was predeceased by her beloved husband James Albert in 1975; daughter Marilyn; and her siblings and their spouses, Alexander (Shirley), William (Vi), Donald (Mary), sister Margaret; and nephews Donald and Alan McGregor. Hettie was born and raised in Winnipeg and was a longtime resident of Elmwood and East Kildonan. Early in her working career she met James and they were married in 1938. She led an active life, attending symphony concerts, the ballet and theatrical performances including Rainbow Stage. Hettie took special pleasure in celebrating the family milestones of weddings, graduations, and anniversaries both in Winnipeg and in Minneapolis. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and never missed an opportunity to hear the bagpipes or to share a bit of shortbread. Hettie is survived by her daughter Elaine and son-in-law Dr. Roland Dumonceaux and their children, John and Nicole (fiancé Travis Malnar). Her grandchildren were a very important part of her life and she looked forward to their frequent visits as well as her trips to Minneapolis. Hettie was especially proud of her grandson John's academic achievements and took great delight in attending her granddaughter Nicole's figure skating performances. Also mourning her loss are her nieces and nephews, Natalie MacDonald (Ross), Pat Vipond and Allen Valentine (Bonnie) of Winnipeg, Diane Tyson (Hugh) of Salmon Arm, Edward Bate of San Francisco and Dennis Bishop (Carolyn) of Toronto; and many great-nieces and nephews. As a great-aunt she was especially close to David (Michelle) Valentine. Mother spent the last four years of her life in The Middlechurch Nursing Home. The family wishes to thank her wonderful caregivers, especially her companion Gwen Stephens, Barbara Harrison for her visits and Bonnie and Allen who were there when we needed them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hettie's name to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Monsignor Louis McClosky will officiate at a graveside service June 10 at 2:00 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery.
