BERNICE EMMA VIOLET PARKER (nee OLMSTEAD) Peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, Bernice passed away at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 79 years. Bernice was predeceased by her parents, Violet and Melvin Olmstead, her husband, Donald James Parker, an infant daughter, Heather, and her brother, Allan Olmstead. Bernice is survived by her loving daughter, Debra (Joe Sheil). Also left to cherish her memory are her beloved grandchildren, Parker Gillian and Eamon Donovan Sheil, her sister-in-law Joan Olmstead, and five nieces and nephews. Bernice was born May 13, 1927, and grew up on a farm in Gregg, MB. She graduated from the University of Winnipeg and soon moved to Sanford. Once settled and educating the local youth, she was successfully courted by a singularly eligible bachelor. She soon married Donald Parker and raised their daughter, Debra. Bernice loved music and was organist at Sanford Church for many years. Her love of music and confidence in her daughter brought her many years of pleasure coaching and accompanying Deb in a wide variety of performances. In her later years, she became a member of the University Women's Club Bell Choir where she reconnected with her university pals. Bernice was always busy sewing, knitting, crocheting or tending to her many gardens while supporting the Winnipeg music community. Home, family and friends were always the centre of her life. Bernice was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and friend. One of her greatest satisfactions was the love and company she shared with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her dignity, quiet determination and her love and concern for family and friends. Our family would like to thank the exceptional nursing staff at Victoria Hospital, 3 South, for their care and personal dedication. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 3:30 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, R3T 2E8.
