ANNIE ETHEL JOHNSON (nee BUSH) September 22, 1907 - May 17, 2006 Peacefully, at the Ste. Rose General Hospital, on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, Annie Ethel Johnson, a resident of the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home, formerly of Vogar, MB, went to her Lord at the age of 98 years. Annie was predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, John J. Johnson; her parents, Ethel Matilda Bush and William Bush; her three brothers, Hector (Nellie), Eric and Edward; her sister Laurie Tegelberg (Milton) and infant sister Rose; great-granddaughter Chelsea Johnson; grandson-in-law Mel McKelvey; parents-in-law Jon and Gudrun Jonsson, and brothers and sisters-in-law Bjorg (Bjarni) Thorsteinson, Paul Johnson, Ranka (Steini) Gudmundson, Mundi Johnson, Helga (Eystein) Arnason, Imba (Bjarni) Eggertson; brother-in-law Joe Van Steelant. Annie is survived by her loving sons and their wives, W. John and Vera, and Paul and Bev, all of Vogar; her seven grandchildren, Debbie (Dr. Werner), R. John (Karla), Lorraine (Kelly), Dianne, Greg (Teresa), Carol (David), and Marlene (Brian); great-grandchildren, Kajsa, Shelby, Sawyer, Troy, Chantelle, Shea, Joshua, Terrance, Rhea, Zachary, Andrew, Cole, and Keyra; sister-in-law Edna Van Steelant, and several nieces and nephews. Annie was born on September 22, 1907 in St. James, MB. She came to live in Gunton as a preschool child. She attended Gunton Consolidated School from grade one to the end of grade eleven. Annie worked for one year in several Gunton homes as a domestic and as a cook in the Colonel Harold Riley home in Winnipeg. In 1926-27, she took teachers training at the Manitou Normal School. In the fall of 1927, she came to teach at Vogar. From there she taught in a grade 1 - 3 classroom in Gardenton, and in the fall of 1928, she came back to Vogar, where she remained until her marriage in 1931. She and her husband John farmed until he passed away in 1979. Grandma will be especially remembered for her compassion and caring heart. She endured all of life's challenges, and accepted them in a positive manner. This is the example that was set for her by the most influential person in her life, her mother. Annie was a nurturing caregiver, whether it was babysitting a grandchild, or helping an aged family member. She met all of these challenges with the sense of humour that was so much a part of her. We will also remember her love of music, and her passion for writing poetry, which she shared on special family occasions. Grandma and Grandpa together always made sure to mark our family milestones in very meaningful and memorable ways. A celebration of Annie's life will be held on Monday, May 22, 2006, 2:00 p.m., at the Siglunes Community Centre. Officiating will be Rev. Melanie Kauppila. Friends and relatives may pay their respects from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2006 at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern. Pallbearers will be R. John Johnson, Greg Johnson, Kelly Johnson, Brian Whitby, Werner Pieterse, and Sawyer Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be David Conroy, Shelby Hilderman, Russell Monkman, Richard Monkman, Jim Freeman, Donald Seal, Steven Reykdal, Raymond Pelletier and Skuli and Hulda Thorsteinson. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the many people that have provided Annie with excellent care over the past nine years. These include homecare staff Alice, Rose and Bonnie, and the staffs of the Dr. Gendreau Memorial Personal Care Home, and the Ste. Rose General Hospital, and Alyssa from the Ste. Rose School. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so wish, they may make a donation to the Siglunes Community Club, in care of Lucille Freeman, Vogar MB, R0C 3C0. Sunset At even tide when day is done I love to watch the setting sun God's handiwork divine Stretches in never ending line Beautiful tones of rose and blue Even grey and violet too All blend with other shades of night. As I gaze out my window At this wondrous sight I feel akin to the one inspired to write Beyond the Sunset oh Glad Reunion And I hope that some day I may be beyond The sunset to live with thee.
