TOM (TOMISLAV) PAUKOVIC June 14, 1924 May 16, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband and father, Tom Paukovic on Tuesday, May 16. He passed away after a lengthy battle with lung cancer at his home surrounded by his family. Tom is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Maria; brother Ivan; sister Anna and his daughter Janet. He is survived by his wife Maria; sons, Tom (Janice nee Kraemer), Dan (Bev nee Tinkler), Tony (Jan nee Tinsley); daughter Maria; sister Vera, and many grand and great-grandchildren. Tom was born in Toun, Croatia in 1924. He grew up in Varazdin and after the war he escaped to Austria where he met the love of his life and his future wife of 59 years. In 1954 he immigrated to Canada with his wife and two children and settled in Winnipeg. One of Dad's passions in life was the game of soccer. He played it as a child growing up in Croatia and continued to play after the war on the Croatian National Team. When he immigrated to Canada he brought his love of the sport to this Province where Dad coached the Croatian team of the Premiere Division for a number of years. He was the Head Disciplinarian for the Manitoba Soccer Association, Manitoba Central Soccer League and many other soccer associations. He served in this capacity for over 20 years. Dad was employed by the City of Winnipeg Transit for over 30 years where he was affectionately known as Transit Tom. He served as a bus driver for over 25 years. Many people remember him for his sense of humour, and his ability to welcome his passengers in a number of different languages. In keeping with his wishes, the family has requested a private ceremony. Cremation has taken place and a private family reception followed. The family would like to send a special thank you to, Mary Ashcroft, Erin Fisher, Jo, Norma and Naomi from The WRHA Palliative Care Sub Program. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom's name to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
