PAMELA ARLIE CORMACK (nee McBAIN) After a courageous battle with cancer, Pam passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 19, 2006 with her family by her side. Pam will be lovingly remembered by her husband Dave; daughter Cheryl (Derek); son Ryan (Meok); her beloved grandchildren, Kayla and Thomas; the Luciw, McQueen, Bradley and Balderstone families, and numerous dear friends. Pam was born in Winnipeg in August of 1944, the only child of the late Isabella and Kenneth McBain. As a young woman, Pam was involved in equestrian sports, winning numerous awards. Pam met the love of her life and best friend, Dave, in 1966 and married in 1968. They lived in St. Andrews, MB for 25 years where Pam enjoyed raising her family, visiting with neighbours, gardening and relaxing in the pool. Pam was a devoted mother, spending countless hours at tee-ball, baseball, figure skating, ringette, hockey, Cub Scouts and Girl Guides in support of her children. Pam was very active in the community throughout her life. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary for the St. Andrews Community Club, a Brownie and Girl Guide leader, a Sunday School teacher at Little Britain United Church, assistant coach of her daughters ringette team, and in later years served on the executive of the Royal Manitoba Yacht Club. One of Pam's favourite pastimes was cruising on their boat, the Grizwald, with family and friends. Pam and Dave also enjoyed many winter vacations to the Caribbean and Mexico. During the last seven years, her home on the river in West St. Paul brought her great joy. Pam worked for the Manitoba government for over 20 years and retired from the Hudson's Bay Company Archives in November 2005 due to ill health. She took pride in her job, volunteering to coordinate various charity events at work, and enjoyed the time spent with coworkers. Pam fought her illness the way she lived her life, with a positive attitude and selfless concern for her family and friends. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Miskiewicz for her care over the years, Dr. Sri Navaratnam and nurse Lori at CancerCare for their kind support, the palliative care team, and staff at the Riverview Hospital. A special thank you to Amanda, Pam's homecare worker and friend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Rev. Robin Mather officiating. A loving wife, mother and friend, you will be in our hearts forever. I was saddened to hear of Pam's death. The news brought back so many memories of years gone by. We had some great fun, especially singing those Hoyt Axton tunes! I'll always have a special place in my heart for my Winnipeg friends. Dave, I wish you and your family hope in the midst of sorrow and comfort in the midst of pain.
