GERALD DONALD WEST May 22, 1925 - May 19, 2006 With sadness we announce the passing of our father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dad passed away peacefully after battling with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease with his family by his side. Leaving to mourn; his wife of 56 years, Norma West (Kaus); children, Douglas (Karen), Howard (Cheryl), David, Rodney (Debbie), Jeffrey (Sherri); grandchildren, Patricia, Dave (Erin), Jason, Jeremy, Brittney, Liam; great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Parish. Dad was predeceased by his parents, John and Vera West and his brother Jack. Dad served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. He liked to play the fiddle and enjoyed going to country fairs and Folklorama. Dad owned a cattle farm in Hilbre, MB and farmed for 30 years, he then worked at the Steel Brothers Lime Plant near Steep Rock, MB for the last 20 years of his working life. Gerald and Norma moved to Winnipeg, MB where they retired for the last 17 years of his life. The family would like to thank the staff at Meadowood Manor for taking such good care of Gerald during his final years. Public viewing will take place on Wednesday, May 24 from 7:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 26 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Interment in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Prayer. A gathering of family and friends will take place in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre.
