Date of Passing: May 20, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN WILSON GRAHAM BRASS Peacefully, on Saturday, May 20, 2006, after a lengthy illness, Jean passed away at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg at age 85. Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter Sharon of Winnipeg, sons Jim (Susan) of Comox, B.C. and Peter (Nicole) of Winnipeg. She is also survived by her granddaughters Kerri (Scott) of Winnipeg, Lindsay (Kyle) of Washington D.C. and Heather of Victoria B.C. Jean was predeceased by her parents Etoile and Garfield Graham, and by her beloved husbands Ross McKessock (1943) and George Brass (1997). Jean was born in Calgary, Alberta on March 22, 1921. Following the death of her father, Garfield Graham in 1927, Jean and her mother Etoile moved to Vancouver, B.C. where she attended school. In 1941, Jean married Ross McKessock of Vancouver. Following Ross' death (killed in action in The Second World War) she married George Brass in 1948 and moved to Edmonton, AB. They had many wonderful memories of their time there and their summers at Jasper, AB with their dear friends the Stewarts. They moved to Winnipeg in 1958 where George had been invited to be one of the founding members of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba. The family soon established a new life in Winnipeg. Jean (always describing herself as an urban Vancouverite) was thrust into cottage life at Falcon Lake with a wood stove, ice box, and spotty electricity. She was the ultimate good sport and spent every weekend and summer there. She provided her family and friends with many enduring cottage memories. Jean devoted her life to raising her children. Her home was her palace and her family was the focus of her life. She was a friendly, kind, loving, and caring person. Many have remarked on her ladylike qualities and generosity of spirit. Her children and grandchildren benefited from her guidance, warmth, wit and wisdom and owe much of the success in their lives to her. She was blessed with many longstanding and close friendships over the years. Her family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their compassionate care over the past few years and to her companion Linda. Cremation will take place and a private family service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, a donation may be made to a charity of their choice.
